I will present you now imvucodes 5 which will be released on 17th of September 2009. It is now about the fifth version of imvucodes within the past 2.5 years and there is a lot new in this version!

Code community: imvucodes 5 exists of a community containing users and groups where user can join to. Everyone can create an own group.

User content: It is now possible for every IMVU user to make up own content at imvucodes. The content can be attached to a group (that you own or manage) and then it is only accessable inside the group.

Image upload: The image upload is finally back! Also images can be attached to a group and the group can be used as gallery then.

Depending on your status at IMVU you have an upload limitation. This value maybe increased in future or on demand. For example, if you own your avatarname (means without Guest_ in front of it) and you are an active content creator you will be allowed to upload up to 260 pictures.

Notifications: This is now a main part of imvucodes 5 that helps you to keep track on updated codes and happenings on imvucodes. imvucodes 5 has implemented three types of notifications. First, there is a typical mail notification, which means you will get a mail when imvucodes updates a main code or a code of a group you are member of updates a code. The same is possible for images. These notification settings can be changed in your account settings. Mail notification will only work if you once verified your email address (typical opt-in mail).

Second, the page shows MacOS-like growl notifications in the lower bottom top right part of the browser when something happens on imvucodes. This news system shows who just logged in, added a code, created a group and even if someone joined a group. Third and last, imvucodes 5 allows you to get mail notifications as push messages onto your iPhone or iPod Touch using Prowl.

Prowl is an app from the AppStore which usually acts as growl plugin on MacOS systems in order to get growl messages as push notifications when you are away from your Mac. Prowl also offers an open API to communicate with. This means: when you provide your Prowl API-Key in your account settings it will send you these notifications directly to your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Advertisement: The past (current) version of imvucodes was overwhelmed with requests of adding user banners for products and pages that are IMVU related. Therefor imvucodes 5 has an improved and better way to add your banner right into the right spot. At the moment there are four banner spots on imvucodes 5. Two of them are rated at 0.1 credit per view (which may change some time) and the other two are completely free to use. Please note: Banners will of course be checked before set active and also you have to request to take part in the banner network of imvucodes 5 before you can upload your own.

Accounts: imvucodes 5 completely relies on the OpenID verification concept. OpenID is a way to login over a second website (in this case IMVU) to gain the information that you are the one that owns the account you want to log in to at imvucodes 5. This makes sure you share your password in no way with imvucodes (just your avatarname) and allows imvucodes 5 to make the page exclusivly for IMVU users.

A lot of companies are using Twitter to keep their “followers” up to date with latest changes, improvements and releases. And yes… IMVU is one of them too (IMVUInc @ Twitter). They just joined the microblogging universum but already got the attention of up to almost 2500 followers within the last three months while also starting their quite new Blog too.

Please do not mix up Twitter with a chatting tool. There is a big difference. Any message you post *can* be viewed by others *unless* you write them explicitly private (= direct messages). A message must not contain more than 140 characters and contain links of course. The links usually are shorted by shorturl services (e.g. famous tinyurl.com). To catch someones else eyes on your tweet you have to mention their names in it. For example you would write @imvustars (yes we have an account too!) to catch our eyes on your tweet.

Often people who send tweets are using hastags to categorize the tweets in some ways. This makes it easier for others who use (for example) the Twitter Search to find related tweets about a topic. Hashtags will be written in this way: #hash #tags. Some hashtags might get into the Top ones if mentioned a lot of times in a lot of tweets in a short and long time.

If you got a message on your homepage from an avatar and you want to report it you should use the given “Report abuse” above the message. Like this you can flag a chosen message for review and IMVU will get all evidences to take action.

Also messages containing fake links, disgusting words, spam and very suspicious messages should be reported.

If someone attacks you in the client there is a button as well to report the whole chat. The whole chat history might be send to IMVU in case of clicking the button.

Reporting an issue later after the chat is closed or the message deleted makes it not easy and maybe also impossible to search for evidences of the case. Therefor: If needed, report in time and not too late and of course do not ignore it.

IMVU will block the avatar straight ahead if you report them. Like this they will not even have the chance to get in contact with you again.

The idea of this thead is to get to know each other a little better. To put a back ground behind the avatar, so to speak.

My name is Mandie, I recently got a name change from Lindy to my real name. I joined on 1.31/07 so have been here 2 1/2 years lol. I have been a forum moderator for the past year and thoughrally enjoy it. I also develop, texturing mainly, although have started dabbling in meshing.

Reallife: I am a single mum to 4 lovely children who are the apple of my eye. They are 7, 10, 16 and 19. I live on the south coast of England in a beutiful holiday resort called Bournemouth. Working part time for my local convenience store I get to meet a wide range of people and love my job to bits!

In the fall I am going to college to enrol in a creative writing course as I write poetry and have had several published. I find poetry writing helps me to express myself in ways I cant normally do. I love music, films (especially those with Johnny Depp in lol) reading and playing in photoshop and paint shop pro.

Even the communties staff workers would never ask for your password. So do not give it away. Understood it? Never. If you are trusting a dearest friend that might be the only exception, but nothing besides that.

Just a bad example for this topic:
I once had requested support at the Windows Live Account Support and they asked me to mail them my password for the Account including the allowance for them to enter it. That is totally against the basic principle. Never means never and should not be different. If an staff worker really needs to access an account they have their ways to do so and thats not a privilege its also an exception.

Why we are picking this topic? Well, we noticed a few messages on IMVU telling you to send them your password for various reasons (Getting more credits, getting anything else or any service that maybe sounds nice). In general this would result in almost all times in loosing your account, loosing the credits. So if you follow the principle to never give away your password and maybe also changing it from time to time you should never be in the risk of loosing your account to someone else.

This leads us to more rumors of fakes in messages. For example you will never earn millions or billions of credits if you spread the message over the community a few times. Thats in word: bullshit. There never had been such a behaviour nor there will. New credits cost money (unless you earn them by deving or using promotional credits). Stop sending those messages to plenty other users and trick them again! Inform the sender of the message as well and maybe you find a new friend doing that
